Movin’ The Chains Wins Top Honors at BBQ, Blues and Brews on the Bay

A lip smackin good time was had by all who attended the first ever BBQ, Blues and Brews on the Bay at The Mill Casino this Memorial Day weekend!

The Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned event was sponsored by Green Mountain Grills, Marshfield Bargain House and K-Dock 92.9.

Visitors from all over the region came to the South Oregon Coast for the holiday weekend to take in some hot blues music from regional artists such as the Ty Curtis Band, The Vipers, Brooks Robertson and Soulpie along with regionally-crafted beers from Ninkasi, Deschutes Brewery, Seven Brides Brewing, Pyramid Brewery, Full Sail, Bridgeport, Caldera Brewing Company, and Cascade Lakes.

The banner event however was the KCBS sanctioned BBQ competition where 20- plus BBQ teams competed for bragging rights and a total of $5,000 in prize money.   Congratulations to all of our winners!

20th Anniversary Tour Reunites Band with Lead Singer Richie McDonald

On Thursday, August 9, The Mill Casino • Hotel & RV Park will welcome the multi-platinum country music quartet Lonestar featuring the band’s four original members: keyboardist Dean Sams; drummer Keech Rainwater; lead guitarist Michael Britt; and lead singer Richie McDonald on their 20th Anniversary Tour.

The one-night only performance, which will take place rain or shine on the casino’s waterfront dock, will kick off at 8:30 p.m.

Known for merging their country roots with strong melodies and rich vocals, Lonestar has had over ten No.1 country hits including “Tequila Talkin’,” “No News,” “Come Crying To Me,” “Smile,” “Tell Her,” “What About Now,” “My Front Porch Looking In,” “I’m Already There,” and their crossover smash, “Amazed.” Originally formed in Nashville in 1992, Lonestar has achieved numerous awards including 1999 ACM Single and Song of The Year for “Amazed” and the 2001 CMA Vocal Group of the Year.

The Mill Casino Hotel & RV Park hosts annual Northwest Area Rally of the Family Motor Coach Association in June

An expected 1,000 visitors and their RVs will be rolling into town beginning June 19 as The Mill Casino • Hotel & RV Park hosts the annual Northwest Area Rally of the Family Motor Coach Association.  The event features

This will be the first time the national organization will hold its Northwest Rally on Oregon’s South Coast. The event is scheduled for June 21-24, but organizers say that their members customarily arrive two days early. Although the event is open to FMCA members only, a vendor show and display of RV coaches is open to the public.

“To be a member of the FMCA is to be someone who loves to travel and to visit new and interesting locations,” said Larry Close, general manager of The Mill Casino • Hotel & RV Park. “Hosting this event is a great opportunity for The Mill, but it is an even greater opportunity to present all of the attractions of our communities to visitors from throughout the Pacific Northwest who definitely love to travel.”

The Mill has planned a variety of activities for rally participants including a poker run to shops and local venues in North Bend and Coos Bay. Tours of local attractions will be available to give visitors a taste of what the region has to offer.

Rally participants will be encouraged to visit area restaurants for one evening’s meal. A second evening will have members of the Coquille Indian Tribe demonstrating native cooking techniques and discussing Tribal culture at a traditional salmon bake.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 25-27, The Mill Casino will host BBQ, Blues & Brews on the Bay, a three-day celebration featuring lip-smacking good barbecue, locally-crafted beers and sizzling hot blues music with the Ty Curtis Band, The Vipers and Brooks Robertson. The event is sponsored by Green Mountain Grill, Marshfield Bargain House, and K-Dock 92.9.

Judges and Entrants Wanted for $5,000 Memorial Day BBQ Competition

Think you’ve got the chops to win your share of $5,000 and bragging rights for having the Coast’s best barbecue? Whether you’re a grill master, or just love to eat good BBQ, The Mill Casino is looking for those who love making and eating barbecue to participate in this Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event.

Starting Friday, May 25, barbecue aficionados can become certified Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) judges in preparation for judging Sunday’s BBQ competition. The class is $70 for non-KCBS members and $45 for existing members. To sign up for the KCBS certification class, download the application at www.themillcasino.com. Registrations must be received by May 18.

On Friday night at 5 p.m. BBQ, Blues & Brews on the Bay officially kicks off with a smoking hot band in the Salmon Room, featuring The Vipers and delicious barbecue by Hole In The Wall Barbecue and The Mill Casino.

Starting Saturday at noon, hungry BBQ fans can enjoy a sneak preview of what the 20-plus BBQ competitors will be serving up to the judges during Sunday’s competition. At just $1 per 2- ounce piece of BBQ, no one is likely to go home hungry. At 8 p.m. on Saturday night, The Mill Casino will host live entertainment in the Salmon Room for those 21 and older, featuring Salem’s award-winning blues rockers, the Ty Curtis Band.

Throughout both Saturday and Sunday, while guests are entertained by Brooks Robertson and other live bands, guests can help decide which regional brewery crafts the best beer. Sample outstanding beers from Ninkasi, Deschutes Brewery, Seven Brides Brewing, Pyramid Brewery, Full Sail, Bridgeport, Caldera Brewing Company and Cascade Lakes.

Come Sunday morning at 11a.m. after slaving away all night over their smokers, competitors will begin turning in their delectable edibles to the KCBS-sanctioned judges. At 4 p.m. the judges will announce the winners and award a total of $5,000 in prize money. They also will announce the winners of the Top Three Best Brews!
