The Mill Casino hopes you will join for a special night of dining, dancing while supporting an amazing cause at the Star of Hope’s 4th Annual Valentine’s with the Stars: Celebrity and Bachelor Auction, Dinner and Dance this Saturday, February 8, 2014!

Since 1964, Star of Hope has provided vocational, community inclusion, residential and community support services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Coos County. Their philosophy is to protect and nurture the intellectual, physical, emotional and social development of each individual, providing the training and experiences that will enable them to succeed.

This annual fundraiser has grown every year and raised thousands in donations, in-kind sponsorships and gift certificates. As a result, Star of Hope was able to get their Customized Employment Program running while supporting their programs and services that assist adults with developmental disabilities in Coos County. The Mill Casino is proud to be one of the sponsors of this special event and we hope they will raise even more this year!

Tickets include live entertainment featuring Done Deal, a fashion show, Celebrity and Bachelor Auction, Dinner and Dance. Step up and join to see who can raise the most for the residential, vocational and community support services for adults with developmental disabilities in Coos County!

The 25th annual South Coast Clambake Jazz Festival is coming to Coos Bay- North Bend Oregon March 14-16, 2014!  Each year, music lovers from all over the region flock to the Oregon Coast for this popular jazz festival.

New this year: ALL music and dance venues will under one roof at The Mill Casino! The venues will be The Hazel Room, The Cedar Room, The Salmon Room and for the first time, the Saw Blade Room, which is adjacent to the Plank House Restaurant on the main floor. All venues will have dance floors.

Here is a little history on how this special event has evolved in the past 25 years.
Upon it’s initial launch, the Clambake Jazz Festival was called the Dixieland Jazz Festival. Since that time, the festival music has evolved with their audience to include a range of musical styles like Big Band, Zydeco, Blues, Gospel, Oldies, Rock & Roll and of course, Dixieland and the event was eventually renamed The South Coast Clambake Jazz Festival.

The South Coast Clambake Jazz Festival has been fortunate to have the support of our community and loyal patrons from around the region. This year’s theme is “More than Just Jazz” and features performances by:

It’s a little known secret that the winter months are an optimal time to visit the Oregon coast. It’s less crowded, the fishing is great, the clam chowder is hot, storm watching is at it’s peak at Shore Acres State Park, and you could catch a glimpse of the whales migrating on their annual 6,000 mile journey to the warm waters of California. Here are some tips to get the most out your weekend getaway!

Before your trip:

3. Create your own itinerary but leave room for a spontaneous adventures!
There is always something happening in the North Bend, Charleston and Coos Bay area. Oregon’s Adventure Coast has put together some sample itineraries to give you some ideas.  We also recommend going to their Events Calendar to see what is happening in and around the community, and of course check the Mill Casino Events Calendar! Our nightclub, Warehouse 101, hosts Comedy Night every Wednesday and live music every Friday & Saturday night.

4. Pack the following:

  • Workout clothes! Start the day with a vigorous working with a waterfront view in our fitness room located on the second floor of our Lodge.
  • Bathing Suit. Enjoy our relaxing indoor pool and two hot tubs on the South End of our Lodge. The pool is complimentary for all guests. Towels are provided at the pool.
  • Your Camera for winter storm watching and to capture all of the fond memories from your trip.
  • Layers of clothing. Average winter temperatures range from mid/high 40’s to low 50’s during day to mid 30’s at night. Since the weather changes from hour to hour, we suggest packing layers of clothing such as t-shirts, jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts hats, scarves, gloves, etc so you can be ready for anything.
  • Casual “night-out clothes” for dining out and dancing the night away in Warehouse 101.
  • Binoculars. These come in handy when you want to get a closer look the Pacific Ocean, and let’s not forget whale and bird watching!
  • Sunscreen. If you plan to spend any time outdoors, please remember the UV rays from the sun still shine through, so it is important to protect your skin with sunscreen anything else you normally use to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for overall use, flip-flops for the beach (in case it is warm enough) and good boots for hiking.
