Mark Helfrich

This winter, one of Coos Bay’s most distinguished natives is coming to The Mill Casino!

We are pleased to be the host site for the Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation Dinner, where guests will enjoy a chef prepared buffet dinner and an evening with Mark Helfrich, Head Coach for the University of Oregon Ducks Football Team and 92’ Marshfield High School Graduate.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes programs for the arts, academics, activities, and athletics to benefit the students of the Coos Bay School District.

Helfrich 2014 Spring Game Mark Helfrich has a special connection to our community. He grew up in Coos Bay, and became the quarterback at Marshfield High School before graduating in 1992. He turned down an opportunity to walk on at Oregon to attend Southern Oregon University, where he set school records as the starting quarterback from 1992-1995. During those years, Helfrich became an NAIA Scholar-Athlete (1993) and led the nation in total offense while earning NAIA honorable mention All-America accolades before he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1996.

In January 2013, Mark Helfrich was named the head football coach at the University of Oregon, where he previously served as the offensive coordinator from 2009 to 2012. Born in Medford, Ore., Helfrich is the first native Oregonian to head the university’s football program in 71 years. In his first year as head coach, Helfrich led the Ducks to an impressive 11-2 season and a 30-7 Alamo Bowl triumph over Texas, surpassing Chip Kelly’s Oregon record for most wins by a rookie head coach. Proving that the first season was not a fluke, Coach Helfrich has led the Ducks this season to an outstanding 12-1 record in 2014, making them 1st in the North Division. The Ducks will be playing Florida State in the nationally televised Rose Bowl game on January 1, 2015.

Best Hotel Oregon Coast

Yeah we said it! Best Hotel on Oregon’s South Coast!

But don’t take our word for it. Just ask the readers of The World newspaper, a daily publication covering the Bay Area of Oregon: Coos Bay, North Bend, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Bandon and Reedsport.

We recently learned that The Mill Casino has once again been voted “Best Hotel” on Oregon’s south coast in the 2014 Best of the South Coast Poll!

In the same poll, we were also named “Best Casino”, ” Best Business in North Bend” (tied with Cicarelli’s) and a “favorite” for “Best Customer Service” on the South Coast. The annual “Best of the South Coast” poll is a chance for readers to pick their favorite local businesses from all over Oregon’s South Coast.

The Mill Casino Are we honored that our hard working staff has received recognition for their enthusiasm and dedication to excellence?

The Mill Casino Hotel Receives TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence!

Hotel News Comments Off

For the second year in a row, The Mill Casino Hotel has been presented with a Certificate of Excellence by  TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site! This recognition is especially meaningful to us because it is based on feedback from those who matter most – our customers!

Now in its fourth year, the award celebrates hospitality excellence and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. Establishments awarded the Certificate of Excellence are located all over the world and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on the website.

To qualify for this award, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor.

Here is a small sample of some of actual reviews our guests have left for us recently on TripAdvisor. To see all of our reviews, please visit the The Mill Casino Hotel TripAdvisor page.  We are always listening and open to your feedback.   Thank you to all of our guests who took the time to share theirs!

After a long day of driving, our room at The Mill was a wonderful retreat! So elegant and comfortable! Front desk personnel were very friendly and nice. We’d like to see something a little different for casual eating, a little break from the casino would be nice. But we’ll stay here again and again…love the sea breeze and the comfy accommodations!

We wanted a relaxing weekend with family. We enjoyed good food, comfortable room, and pleasant views. The Easter brunch was delicious, there was a short wait, but nothing too painful. Dinner the night before was delicious in the BBQ restaurant. Service was attentive and helpful.

We come to the Mill several times a year and always look forward to it and enjoy every minute. The staff is great from the bell person to the Casino Hosts. In fact we are treated better at the Mill then anywhere else we have gone. Their smoke free lounge “White Caps” is so relaxing and again great service. You can get an appetizer or full meal and just enjoy the view. We have stayed in rooms and suites and they all have been clean and comfortable. There really is nothing about the Mill that is not good. In fact I never need to bring my own pillow since they have the greatest pillows there! If you are in the area don’t miss the Mill.

Stayed here one night, Saturday, May 17, 2014. This hotel was much, much nicer than I anticipated. The first you notice upon arrival is the friendly service at the front door and frequent “hellos” and “welcome to the Mill Casino” as you enter. The lobby is gorgeous; very clean, spacious, modern woodsy/cabin motif, tastefully decorated with exposed wood beams, big wood burning fireplace and comfy couches. Check in couldn’t have been better, total price: $105.00 + taxes. Our room given was on the second floor and overlooked Coos Bay (the water) – just gorgeous. Room itself was nice, we had two queen sized beds for my husband and I plus children. The room had a refrigerator which is always a plus and coffee maker. Beds were comfy, lodgepole headboard and overall cabin look. One slight negative: plastic shower curtain and plastic shower stall. But my criticism is minor. In the morning we had a delicious breakfast. Would definitely come back!

Thank you to our exceptional staff and our wonderful guests for making this possible!

Tree or Wreath Sponsors Needed for the Annual Festival of Trees

Hotel News, Press Releases Comments Off

Annual Event Raises Funds for Local Charities

Do you consider yourself to be a holiday decorating guru?  If so, we could use your help!

Businesses, organizations and individuals have an opportunity to help families in need while getting into the holiday spirit through the annual Festival of Trees, a holiday-themed fundraiser sponsored by The Mill Casino • Hotel and the Bay Area Rotary.

Raising over $13,000 last year, the Festival of Trees lets participants demonstrate their holiday-decorating talents while raising money for local charities. This year’s goal is to raise $15,000 for such charities as Shots for Tots, The Women’s Safety and Resource Center and Coddington Place.

Participants simply choose to sponsor a tree or a wreath by Nov. 4, or while available trees last. Then, at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, sponsors bring their chosen decorations to The Mill Casino’s Salmon Room for the annual Festival of Trees Decorating Party, complete with complimentary refreshments and holiday tunes.

Following the decorating party, a panel of judges will award the top choice in the following categories: Most Whimsical, Most Original, Best Theme, Best Wreath, Judges’ Choice and, of course, Best of Show. The decorated trees and wreaths will be placed on display throughout The Mill’s hotel lobby through Dec. 4.

Each tree will go to the highest bidder during a public auction that begins promptly at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 in The Mill’s Salmon Room. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. to allow potential bidders to take one more look at the trees.

The fully decorated trees will be delivered (up to 30 miles away) to the winning bidder’s home or office on Friday, Dec 6, 2013. Auction winners may also request to have their tree donated to a needy family on December 6 as well.

The Mill Casino • Hotel contributes to the purchase of the trees and wreaths so that sponsorship and auction proceeds from the Festival of Trees can go directly to local charities. In addition, local vendors are used when purchasing trees and wreaths for this Bay Area Rotary fundraiser.

Businesses, organizations and individuals interested in helping those in need are encouraged to participate by sponsoring and/or decorating a tree and/or wreath. To learn more about how to get involved with this event, contact Festival Coordinator, Heidi Proett at 541-269-7929
