WH101 Live Music with Ben Rice
August 14 - August 15
Friday & Saturday Nights | New Times! 8 pm – Midnight
A fearless and innovative guitarist known for his powerful vocal styling, Ben’s original music serves up a roots stew of soul, delta-blues, and funk made all the more savory by his curious collection of resophonic steel and homemade cigar box guitars. He draws inspiration from legends like Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, B.B. King and Stevie Wonder. And while he aims to honor the music’s origins and history, it’s Ben’s raw take on the genre that’s earned him numerous awards including the 2019 Sean Costello Rising Star award, plus three 2019 Blues Music Award nominations from the National Blues Foundation for his album, “Wish the World Away.” Even on the road Ben leaves his mark: In 2015 he took home the St. Blues Guitarist award for best guitarist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, and brought his audience to tears with his rendition of “Key To The Highway” the year before. Whether at home in Oregon or touring internationally, backed by his band or standing alone in the spotlight with nothing but a guitar and his voice, watching Ben play is to be transported.
